The trailer for the upcoming film “Resurrections” was released at Cinemacon, and has been generating a lot of buzz.
Here’s a recap of what the first Matrix Resurrections teaser trailer revealed.
At this week’s Cinemacon, Warner Bros. announced the title of The Matrix 4 as The Matrix: Resurrections. Not only that, but they also showed a complete teaser trailer. There’s no news yet on whether that trailer, or any version of it, will be released online. The Matrix: Resurrections teaser trailer has not yet leaked online, unlike the Spider-Man: No Way Home clip.
However, some people were able to attend the Cinemacon event in Las Vegas and have shared some information about the teaser online. These are the scenes from the trailer that were shown. I’m going through them now to make a list of everything that was revealed in the Matrix 4 teaser video.
The trailer starts off in a near-future San Francisco. The nameless character of Neil Patrick Harris converses with Keanu Reeves, who reprises his role as Neo. Reeves is sporting the same long-haired, bearded appearance he had in the John Wick films. Harris seems to be portraying Neo’s therapist in the teaser. Neo seems to be trapped in a regular, boring existence, unable to comprehend his surroundings and having apparently forgotten his previous life. It reminds me of when we first met Thomas Anderson in The Matrix in 1999.
“Am I crazy?” inquires a perplexed Neo. “We don’t use that term in here,” Harris’ character replies.
Trinity, played by Carrie-Anne Moss, likewise doesn’t appear to know Neo, whom she meets at a café. She asks Neo whether they’ve met previously when they reunite.
After then, the trailer devolves into a montage with a succession of images. The shots are as follows, as reported by Deadline:
As Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit” song plays, a shot of blue pills spills into a sink.
Then there’s a picture of Neo in the mirror, warping into an elderly guy. Neo is told by a younger Morpheus that it is “time to fly,” and is given a crimson pill.
Then there’s a lot of leaping, a lot of mid-air twists, karate, and all the acrobatics you’d expect from a Matrix film.
Motorcycles, helicopters, rocket launchers, and super slow-motion leaping from buildings were among the action images.
According to the trailer, this will be a brief teaser, lasting no more than a minute and a half. It doesn’t reveal anything about the storyline, but it’s every bit as odd, strange, and unusual as you’d expect from a Matrix teaser. We also get a sight of Neo blocking a shower of bullets with his bare hands, according to Brandon Davis of ComicBook. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is the younger Morpheus figure, but he hasn’t been formally confirmed to fill that position; he may be an iteration of Morpheus or a new character.
Neo and Trinity may have been reintroduced into the real world following their destiny at the conclusion of The Matrix Revolutions. In the Matrix, people were produced and grown, not necessarily born. It’s possible that the computers changed their consciousness, grew their bodies, and hooked them back into the Matrix in their own lifetimes. The fundamental issue is whether these characters have any recollections of their time together.
The leaping and martial arts movements that we see are most likely where we’ll see some of the truly amazing things that the movie has in store, similar to the pioneering action scenes from the 1999-2003 trilogy.
The Matrix: Resurrections is still scheduled to be released on December 22, 2024. In the comments section below, let me know what you think of the trailer description.
